Email: info@thermographyclinic.com

POSITION STATEMENT ON THERMOGRAPHY

Responding to a report issued by CBC news November 27, 2012,
representatives from Thermography Clinic Inc. want Canadians to be
accurately informed about breast thermography, its benefits and limitations.

Thermography, as a whole, should not be discredited simply because of the
misinformation and low integrity of one company. We at Thermography Clinic
Inc. and its affiliates have been consistently cautious and strict not to sell fear,
and to stay true to fact. We do not embellish thermography, nor do we use
aggressive marketing techniques.

Accountability and Regulation:

The use of Thermography has internationally established protocols and
procedures that, when adhered to, provide women with further information that
may be useful to their health. We will be submitting an application for regulation
with provincial authorities across Canada to ensure that thermography is
available and held to the highest standards.

Studies:

Please refer to http://www.thermographyclinic.com/study-index for a list of
thermography studies.

FDA Approved:

The American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved medical
thermography an adjunctive test in breast cancer screening in 1982. We agree
with the FDA position that thermography is not a stand-alone technology and
have never deviated from this position in our practice.

Right to Proactive Health Care:

We believe that women deserve choice when it comes to their health.
Thermography provides women and their health care practitioners with additional
information. It is not intended to replace mammography. Studies have shown that
Breast Thermography, combined with structural testing (mammography) and self-
breast examination, provides women with information they can use to make their
health decisions.

Over many years, we have helped thousands of women with breast health and
prevention. We work with utmost integrity and care. We believe many women
would not be alive today if we did not have this knowledge and technology.
Unfortunately, many women will suffer immensely if the use of thermography is
prohibited.

BREAST THERMOGRAPHY – AN OVERVIEW

Breast thermography is a physiological test that provides information on
temperature and infrared heat patterns of the breast. Because the skin naturally
emits thermal radiation (heat), it is well suited to infrared imaging. Thermography
differs from mammography in that it provides information on the biological activity
of the breast versus the gross internal anatomy. Infrared imaging is a functional
test, whereas mammography is a structural test.

As a functional test, thermography can detect breast abnormalities that other
screening methods cannot identify, namely thermal and vascular changes. The
increased metabolic activity seen on a breast thermogram can be an indication of
injury, mastitis, fibrocystic breast disease or cancer. These functional changes
are thought to take place before the onset of structural changes that can occur in
diseased or cancerous states. A persistent abnormal thermogram can alert the
physician to the need for further investigation and identify women who need to be
more closely monitored.

Because thermograms in a healthy woman remain remarkably constant, serial
thermograms can assess tissue changes over time. A healthy initial thermogram
serves as a baseline to compare future thermograms against.

Recognizing the Limitations of Thermal Imaging

Thermography cannot, and does not, diagnose breast cancer. This is true also
for anatomical tests such as mammograms, ultrasounds and magnetic resonance
imaging. Such tests provide information on the different aspects of the disease
process and identify the need for further investigations. A biopsy of the breast
and accompanying histological evaluation is the only definitive diagnostic test for
breast cancer.

Understanding the Strengths of Breast Thermography

Thermography is a non-invasive, contact-free procedure that doesn’t require
compression of the breasts. There is no exposure to radiation, which means
repeat tests are safe and without risk. One of the key benefits of thermography is
its effectiveness in women with dense breasts, making it suitable for:

Younger women – approximately 18% of breast cancers are diagnosed in
women during their forties. Women who develop breast cancer at a younger age
tend to have more rapidly growing cancers that are more likely to metastasize.

Women taking hormone therapy – results from the Women’s Health Initiative
trial revealed a significant increase in invasive breast cancer when taking
synthetic hormone replacement therapy. Serial thermograms can also help
monitor the effects of hormone treatment for fibrocystic breasts.

Women with fibrocystic changes – fibrous breasts are very dense and can
mask early cancers, particularly if no micro calcifications are present. Research
shows that approximately 40% of women with fibrocystic disease and an
abnormal thermogram develop breast cancer within 5 years. Conversely, women
with fibrocystic disease and a normal thermogram have a less than 3% likelihood
of developing breast cancer. Thermography can also provide early warnings of
breast abnormalities and highlight potentially suspicious cases particularly when
mammographic and clinical exams are equivocal, or non-specific.

Thermography as an Independent Risk Marker An estimated 60-70% of
women diagnosed with breast cancer have none of the obvious risk factors. For
this reason, breast cancer has been considered an equal opportunity killer.
According to researchers, a persistent abnormal thermogram is thought to be the
single greatest indicator of breast cancer risk and is considered 10 times more
important than a positive family history for the disease.

The Value of Thermography as a Complementary Tool An increase in the
detection rate of breast cancer has been demonstrated in a number of peer-
reviewed studies with the combined use of clinical breast examination,
mammography and thermography. In one study using high-resolution
thermography, an abnormal thermogram coupled with a positive mammogram
and clinical breast exam was associated with a 98% sensitivity rate for breast
cancer detection. Results from a recent 2010 trial showed an 89% sensitivity rate
for the detection of breast cancer in women under 50 when thermal imaging and
mammography were combined. The increase in sensitivity relates to the fact that
mammography and thermography do not always identify the same lesion.

Summary

Thermography is not a competitor to, nor a replacement for mammography.
Rather, it is an adjunct tool that can identify areas of abnormal thermal symmetry,
which are often associated with underlying pathology. When used together with
mammography, thermography may contribute to the best possible evaluation of
breast health.

As a naturopathic doctor, when I use the term “anti-aging therapy” I am referring to more than just reducing laugh lines and firming up the skin around the neck area. Anti-aging therapy has come a long way since the days when Hollywood and television networks began shining a harsh spotlight on the faces of their stars.

It’s true that the aging process affects our skin but it goes far below the surface. Anti-aging therapy addresses the body as a whole (inside and out). Thanks to the work of leading researchers, a number of scientific discoveries regarding our biological make-up have revealed that it is quite possible to literally slow down the aging process.

Slowing down the aging process allows us to influence the health we enjoy in our later years. By taking advantage of new technological developments, we can actually increase the distance between our chronological age and our biological age.

Keeping that reality in mind, I want to share with you the five proven secrets to longevity:
1.	Anti-aging hormones replacement
2.	Anti-aging nutritional supplements
3.	Anti-aging precision exercise
4.	Anti-aging diet
5.	Anti-aging stress reduction

Hormone replacement therapy has been available for years, however many of the synthetically produced compounds that pharmaceutical companies create have been linked to serious side effects that compromise the health of the individual taking them.

In my practice, I recommend Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) as a safe, natural alternative to synthetic hormones.

BHRT uses plant-derived hormones that are structurally identical to the hormones produced in the human body. They are prescribed by a doctor and closely monitored. This ensures safe, effective results that address the individual’s personal hormonal deficiencies, imbalances and health goals.

BHRT has become the foundation in anti-aging programs. Physicians and scientists trained in the science of anti-aging have produced hundreds of research articles showing the merits of BHRT in slowing the aging process.

In fact, anti-aging physicians around the world have been prescribing BHRT for more than 20 years.

BHRT slows the progression of aging, including age-related changes in appearance. Skin elasticity stays firmer and there is less wrinkling of the skin for more years than you would have anticipated.

Patients using BHRT report higher levels of vitality than they were experiencing before beginning hormonal therapy. Their outlook on life improves, leading to an overall sense of well-being and cheerfulness. Many report enjoying a healthier sex life.

Pure Wellness Group has a decade of experience in the area of BHRT. We recommend that everyone considering hormone therapy should remember that one size does not fit all. Hormone therapy is a precise science that measures a variety of important factors before determining the bio-identical hormonal compound that is right for you.

If you are interested in learning more about BHRT, or if you are considering alternatives to synthetic hormone therapy, talk to your doctor or consult with one of our trained naturopathic doctors.

We would be happy to discuss your health issues and concerns, monitor the ongoing benefits of BHRT and assist you in obtaining the proper, independent prescription for your hormone replacement goals.

Have you heard the “buzz” on Oprah, Dr. Phil, Dr. Oz?

Perhaps you have read one of Suzanne Somers’ best-selling books.

In any case, these celebrities have prompted a surge of calls to our clinic. Many of the callers are asking about bio-identical hormones and their ability to relieve symptoms of menopause and peri-menopause.

In my expert opinion, Suzanne Somers, other celebrities, popular doctors and talk show hosts have brought bio-identical hormones to center stage where they belong.

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a safe, natural alternative to synthetic hormones.

I have discussed the natural science and benefits of BHRT on CTV Sudbury, in the September 2012 issue of Sudbury Living Magazine and at women’s wellness shows.

Men and women alike are asking what bio-identical hormones can do for them.

I am typically asked:

1.	What are bio-identical hormones?
2.	Are bio-identical hormones safe?
3.	What effects would I feel if I were to use bio-identical hormones?
4.	Are bio-identical hormones right for me?
5.	How can I get access to bio-identical hormone therapy?

Bio-identical Hormone Replacement Therapy (BHRT) is a hormonal therapy that uses plant-derived hormones, compounded in a pharmacy by highly trained compounding pharmacists. This produces hormone structures that are identical to the hormones produced by the human body.

These hormones include testosterone, estrogens, progesterone and thyroid.

The chemical modification of synthetic hormones is foreign to the human body and only mimics some hormonal activity. These chemical differences can mean that synthetic hormones act differently in your body and produce substantially different effects.

Bio-identical hormones are exactly the same chemical structure as is produced by the human body. They are compounded specific to each patient and based on personal deficiencies, imbalances and health goals.

Bio-identical hormones are prescribed by a doctor and closely monitored to ensure results are safe and effective.

Scientific research and clinical evidence clearly indicate that BHRT is responsible for alleviating many of the symptoms of menopause and andropause (male decline in testosterone) as well as offering other significant health benefits.

For women, the benefits may include:

o	Reduced osteoporosis and restoration of bone strength
o	Reduced hot-flashes and vaginal dryness
o	Better maintenance of muscle mass and strength
o	Improved cholesterol levels and reduced blood pressure
o	Decrease in menstrual pain and breast tenderness
o	Reduced risk of endometrial and breast cancer
o	Reduced risk of depression
o	Improved sleep
o	Better mood, concentration and memory
o	Decrease in irritability
o	Improved libido
o	Decrease in Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive declines

For men, the benefits may include:

o	Increase in over-all life span
o	Reduced osteoporosis and restoration of bone strength
o	Better maintenance of muscle mass and strength
o	Improved cholesterol levels and reduced blood pressure
o	Decrease rate of heart attacks
o	Reduced rate of prostate cancer
o	Reduced risk of depression
o	Improved sleep
o	Better mood, concentration and memory
o	Improved libido, erections and sexual stamina
o	Decrease in Alzheimer’s disease and other cognitive declines

In my practice over the past 10 years, I have witnessed countless patients experience positive results from BHRT.

If you or a loved one is interested in bio-identical hormone replacement therapy or considering alternatives to synthetic hormone therapy, speak to your naturopath.

When you were young, did your mother insist you drink all your orange juice or take chewable vitamin C tablets during the winter? As an adult, do your friends and co-workers recommend taking vitamin C at the first signs of a cold?

In addition to minimizing the effects of the common cold, vitamin C (ascorbic acid) helps your body maintain tissue strength and cartilage growth. Combined with vitamin E, it also works as an antioxidant for allergy sufferers.

If none of this is news to you, this might be……

Although originally met with skepticism, intraveous (IV) vitamin C is becoming increasingly accepted for cancer management.

A research paper (Padayatty 2006), published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal highlighted what is likely to become the future of IV vitamin C therapy in cancer. This paper includes contributions from the National Cancer Institute, the National Institute of Health, the Center for Cancer Research and McGill University.

Since the publication of the paper, there has been a significant increase in the use of IV vitamin C among several leading oncology clinics throughout North America.

Study after study, going back over decades resulted in similar findings.

A leading oncology research team (Cameron and Pauling 1993) concluded that “the administration of this harmless substance, ascorbic acid (vitamin C), might provide us with an effective means of permanently suppressing neoplastic cellular proliferation and invasiveness. In other words an effective means of controlling cancer. Ascorbic acid (vitamin C) in adequate doses might prove to be the ideal cytostatic agent.”

More recent research efforts by leading cancer clinics strongly support previous reports of profound positive impact from this intervention. These include collective studies of almost 4,000 patients who were actively receiving antioxidant therapy. Their findings indicated increased survival as a treatment outcome (Simone 2007).

Of equal importance is a separate review of more than 280 peer-reviewed papers that examined data collected from over 8,500 subjects. This comprehensive review highlighted the lack of any adverse reactions when IV vitamin C protocols were combined with antioxidant and chemotherapy interventions.

As a result of these and other studies, reports and reviews, here’s what we know:

1.	IV vitamin C increases quality of life.
2.	IV vitamin C prolongs survival.
3.	IV vitamin C works interactively with conventional cancer therapies.
4.	IV vitamin C inhibits the enzyme produced by cancer cells (hyaluronidase) that is responsible for the breakdown of healthy tissue and the progression of tumours and metastasis.
5.	IV vitamin C prevents tumour cells from destroying the body’s ability to produce intracellular hydrogen peroxide. In addition, IV vitamin C supports natural production of hydrogen peroxide that fights tumour cells.

IV vitamin C is an effective cancer therapy alone or in conjunction with many conventional chemotherapeutic drugs. The ability of IV vitamin C to prolong survival, improve quality of life and reduce adverse effects of conventional cancer therapies has been reproducibly demonstrated over several decades.

Is the quality of life of someone you know worth sharing this information?

Please share this blog and discuss IV vitamin C therapy with your naturopathic doctor and health team.

Celebrating the future of health care!
September 2012 is the first anniversary of Pure Wellness Group and Dr. Allan Price couldn’t be happier. The medical director and lead naturopathic doctor at Pure Wellness Group, has decided to mark the occasion by enrolling in a health professional to MD program. This is a man truly dedicated to improving health and quality of life. Dressed casually and quick to smile, Dr. Price invites new patients to relax and share their medical history in much the same way you might have an introductory conversation with a new neighbour.

Right from that first consultation, Dr. Price begins the process of creating a relationship where doctor and patient work together. The building he chose for his practice (the former Pit’s House of Treasures on Regent Street) seems more like a home than a medical clinic. The cedar-log location reflects Dr. Price’s vision of a healing centre where he and his patients become partners in their care. Born and raised in Walden, the boy now affectionately known as Doc Al had a typical Northern Ontario childhood. From the ages of three to 18, he played NOHA hockey. Winters were spent in hockey arenas with travelling teams and summers were filled with windsurfing and waterskiing. His family had a waterfront home in the Penage Lake area and a summer camp on Agnew Lake, close to Espanola. He still lives on waterfront property, with his wife, Erin (who he met while they were both in medical school) and three children ages
eight to 12. “Family meant a lot to me growing up and still does today. My wife and I are completely active in our childrens’ lives. Erin volunteers at their school and I coach hockey. We are at their swimming and karate lessons with them and we participate in sporting activities as a family”. Not surprisingly, Dr. Price’s first job was as a lifeguard. Summers performing “minor rescues” at pools and beaches around Sudbury awakened his desire to help people. He is quick to mention specific teachers, professors and coaches who influenced the future Doc Al, and he credits his parents with having a great deal of impact on the doctor he is today. “My parents instilled a sense of respect in me. Respect for the planet and for every human being living on it. They taught me to find the human in everybody.” After earning his Bachelor of Life Science degree at McMaster University, Dr. Price returned home to take the Honours
Nutritional Biochemistry program at Laurentian University before switching to post-graduate studies at the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. During those early studies at Laurentian U, he worked as a homecare assistant with the Sudbury & District Health Unit, helping palliative care patients remain living in their homes. “My experiences with that job pushed me into medicine and sparked my ongoing interest in oncology and my need to help patients suffering with cancer,” Dr. Price recalls. “I witnessed the power of the mind sustaining life long past an expected prognosis. That’s when I started reading more about mind-body medicine and understanding that everyone is unique and that people aren’t just the sum of their body parts.” While studying biochemistry, he witnessed the science of nutrition changing not one cell, but all the cells in the whole body. In his practice, he combines the
mind-body principles of naturopathy and the science of medicine.

After graduating from medical school, he and his wife returned to Sudbury to open Health Coach in 2000. Ten years
later, Health Coach had reached a point where he could “set it free” and follow his goal of integrated medical services. He opened Pure Wellness Group in the fall of 2011.
“I love seeing an autistic child open his eyes and speak for the first time and I love seeing a 17-year-old girl, crippled with arthritis, throw her crutches away and return to playing volleyball. “Knowing some of my patients have outlived their fatal prognosis by more than 10 years is an incredible feeling. That knowledge is immensely gratifying,” he says.

When asked about the future, Dr. Price talks about creating an integrated medical hospital where naturopathic doctors, conventional medical doctors and allied support staff work together in one location for the benefit of each patient. “My dream is for patients to have access to the advantages of integrative medicine. I will always maintain the principles of naturopathic medicine. By also using current, conventional diagnostics we should be able to provide the most thorough universal system and offer each patient the best health care in
the world,” Dr. Price explains.

Not long ago it was common to hear members of the community doing an Autumn de-worming or their annual Spring cleanse. These folks would mix concoctions of castor oil with their family’s proprietary blend of minerals and botanicals. These people were concerned about intestinal worms after months of working in the garden and the barns caring for farm animals.
We now use words like ‘Parasites’ to replace the historical terms of ‘worms’. There are literally thousands of different species of parasites. They can be diagnosed, by chance during a stool collection if some ova (eggs), dead parasite, or a free parasite is collected. A more advanced stool collection is available for a fee. A Comprehensive Digestion Stool Analysis is more likely to indicate the metabolites of parasitic infection, however it is not 100% accurate either. Experienced practitioners can also use Electro-Dermal screening to determine the certainty and the identity of your infections. The diagnosis of parasitic infections is left up to the treating physician whom will qualify if any of the testing results and patient symptoms could be caused by a parasitic infection.
Diarrhea caused by parasitic infections represents the greatest single worldwide cause of illness and death. Parasitic infections are more common in underdeveloped countries in part due to poor sanitation. The numbers of these infections however are increasing in North America due to world travel. It is currently the third major cause of disease and death in North America.
Symptoms of parasitic infections may include some or many of the following: constipation, and/or diarrhea, abdominal pain, fatigue, flatulence, bloating, irritability, nervousness, gastritis, headaches, hives, skin problems, joint pain, post nasal drip, sugar cravings, allergies, brain fog, sleep disturbances, grinding teeth, dark circles under the eyes, indigestion, irritable bowel syndrome, decrease in appetite, and weight loss.
We have an immune system to protect us from infections however the terrain of our body may become favourable to parasitic infections if we produce less acid in the stomache and/or if pancreatic enzyme production decreases, etc. Parasites will thrive where the terrain gives them an opportunity to exist.
Treatment of parasites may include the use of homeopathic preparations, herbal preparations and pharmaceutical prepared medications. Prior to selecting a treatment of antibiotics, herbals, homeopathics or anti-helminthics, consider addressing the underlying factor which may have predisposed your terrain for infection. The treatment usually includes pancreatic enzyme support and berberine containing plants such as Hydrastis Canadensis, Berberis vulgaris, Berberis aquifolium and Coptis chinensis. Treatment of parasitic infections may include oral parasitic cleanses. There does exist a number of pre-packaged programs at the health-food stores. Please use caution if you are currently taking any medications and/or you suffer from IBS, IBD, colitis, crohn’s or diverticulitis. For extremely stubborn and chronic long-term infections, experienced health care providers utilize intravenous applications of hydrogen peroxide.
I strongly recommend that you consult with your healthcare provider prior to initiating a pre-packaged parasite cleanse program.
